On Tuesday, May 8th 2012, World Hyundai proudly made a donation to the American Cancer Society (ACS) of the Tinley Park and Orland Park area! Their annual Relay for Life event will take place this coming June 2-3, 2012 from 2:00pm-6:00am. This annual event has nearly four million participants throughout the United States and a growing number of participants in other countries!
Funds raised through the American Cancer Society Relay for Life help to fund critical cancer research and programs such as Patient Navigation Services while also supporting local patient programs, including free transportation pick-up and drop off to cancer treatments.
Relay for life began over 25 years ago in 1985 when Dr. Gordon Klatt from Tacoma, Washington walked a local track for 24 hours to raise money, traveling 81 miles and raising $27,000 for the fund.
Last year in Illinois alone, 209 Relay for Life events were held and raised $16.9 million dollars with more than 71,000 participants which included 12,000 survivors and 8,000 individual teams!
